In a first, Dior’s creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri is all set to come to India and have the first Dior fashion show here in Mumbai.

Dior will conduct its next fashion show on March 30 at the Gateway of India in Mumbai, making it the first European luxury megabrand to organise a major standalone fashion show in India. At the end of the month, creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri will present Dior’s 2023 pre-fall collection at the monument; the collection will be available in stores the following month.

According to Business of Fashion, it would include evening jackets, silk dresses, and skirts inspired by saris that reference traditional Indian silhouettes.Chanakya, a Mumbai-based women’s craft school and atelier, will embroider several of the garments. The atelier has provided surface embellishment for numerous luxury labels and couture houses. It has also produced works for several of Chiuri’s Paris shows.

Chiuri stated that fashion is more than a 10-minute runway show. “This extraordinary undertaking is the result of the combined efforts of many individuals. am putting on this performance because I adore this country and appreciate their support of my creativity. It is something extremely personal “She advised BoF.

Chiuri told BoF that to exhibit in India is also to celebrate the country’s heritage in embroidery and to demonstrate its significance in the fashion industry. The partnership between Chiuri and Chankaya also reflects her mission to transform Dior into a brand with a feminine sensibility and feminist values. Historically, the majority of ‘karigars’ in the country have been male. The Chanakya School of Craft equips women from low-income backgrounds with the skills necessary to support themselves.
