Earthquake Measuring 3.7 Jolts Meghalaya, Second In N-E In Less Than 5 Hours

An Earthquake measuring 3.7 on the Richter scale occurred in Meghalaya’s Tura, hours after a 3.2 Earthquake shook Manipur on February 28

On February 28, an earthquake measuring 3.7 on the Richter scale happened in Meghalaya’s Tura, just a few hours after a quake measuring 3.2 on the Richter scale shook Manipur.

Tremors were reported to have been felt at 6:57 in the morning, 59 kilometres to the north of Tura, according to the National Center for Seismology. It was reported that the depth of the earthquake was 29 kilometres.

An earthquake with a magnitude of 3.7 occurred on February 28, 2023 at 6:57:18 Indian Standard Time (IST), with coordinates of 26.04 and 90.11, a depth of 29 kilometres, and a location 59 kilometres north of Tura in Meghalaya, according to a tweet from the National Center for Seismology’s official account.

It is important to note that this is the second earthquake that has been recorded in the Northeast on the 28th of February. According to the findings of the National Center for Seismology, a moderate earthquake measuring 3.2 on the Richter scale shook the Noney district in Manipur in the early morning hours of Tuesday. The earthquake occurred at 2:46 in the morning, and it was located at a depth of 25 kilometres.

The National Centre for Seismology (NCS) issued a message that read, “Earthquake of Magnitude:3.2, Occurred on 28-02-2023, 02:46:39 IST, Lat: 24.67 & Long: 93.66, Depth: 25 Km, Location: Noney, Manipur, India.”
