The Bihar government’s caste-based study found that the other backward classes (OBCs) make up 63% of the state’s population, with extremely backward castes being the largest. The much-anticipated report before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections may strengthen the opposition INDIA bloc’s call for a countrywide census.
As soon as the survey results came out, Nitish Kumar, the chief minister of Bihar, praised everyone who worked on it and said that the results would be used to guide future actions that will help everyone grow and improve their lives.
“The caste-based census not only showed the groups, but it also showed how much money everyone had.” “Based on this, more steps will be taken to help all groups grow and improve,” Kumar wrote on X in a social media post.
A former chief minister and leader of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) called it an “important moment.”
“Today, on Gandhi Jayanti, we are all here to watch this important event in history.” An RJD leader wrote on social media, “Today, the Bihar government released the caste-based poll, despite many BJP plots, legal problems, and all the plots.”
“These numbers will show the rest of the country how to make comprehensive plans for the right growth and progress of the deprived, neglected, and poor, as well as how to give marginalized groups the representation they deserve based on their population,” he said.
Giriraj Singh, a union minister and BJP leader, called the poll report a “eyewash.” He said that Nitish Kumar and Lalu Prasad Yadav should give report cards for the 33 years that they have been in power.
“The Caste Census will only make things more confusing for the poor and people in the state.” Nitish Kumar led the state for 18 years and Lalu Yadav led it for 15 years, but neither of them did anything to improve it. They should have given grade cards for that. “The Caste Census report card is just a show,” the fiery BJP leader said.

It’s important to note that the survey was ordered last year after the Narendra Modi government made it clear that it would not be able to count people from groups other than SCs and STs as part of the census.
