Chennai Super Kings, four-time Indian Premier League (IPL) champions, have reinforced their squad with some of the world’s best players in preparation for the 2023 T20 league season. Ben Stokes, unquestionably one of the best all-rounders in the game, was acquired by the franchise for a staggering Rs 16,25 crore at the auction. Former CSK star Matthew Hayden views the England all-rounder as the X-factor for the MS Dhoni-led team heading into the new season.
In an interview with Star Sports, Hayden stated that Stokes has not yet reached his full potential in the IPL. This year, however, things may change, as Stokes may be the “X factor” the Chennai team requires.
“Stokes will be the X-factor for CSK, as he has never realised his full potential in the IPL. He is one of those performers and we have seen him play around the world. Now, under a CSK administration where cricket is the sole focus, I believe he has a great opportunity to be the X-factor this season,” he said.
Hayden chose Ravindra Jadeja, an all-rounder, as the team’s “trump card.”

“In my opinion, Jadeja is always the player to observe. He possesses excellent versatility. CSK has a number of world-class all-rounders, including Ben Stokes, who they just signed. “However, if Jaddu is at his absolute best this season, he can really propel CSK to success,” the former CSK opening batsman explained.
On March 31, the Chennai Super Kings kick off their season against the defending champions Gujarat Titans in the tournament’s opening match.
