Valentine’s Day, observed worldwide on Feb 14, is a day dedicated to showing love and affection for others. On this day, individuals give greeting cards, flowers, and candies with messages of affection. Although the most of us must be aware of this fact, we are unaware that this day also carries historical significance for other significant occurrences.
Pulwama attack
On Feb 14, 2019, four years ago, a suicide bomber carried out a terrorist attack in Pulwama, Jammu & Kashmir, resulting in the deaths of forty CRPF soldiers. Jaish-e-Mohammed, a jihadist organisation with roots in Pakistan, claimed responsibility for the Pulwama attack. The strike delivered a significant blow to India–Pakistan relations, leading in the 2019 military standoff between the two countries.
The “Pulwama attack” marks its fourth anniversary this year.
Week of Financial Literacy
Since 2016, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has held Financial Literacy Week (FLW) annually to disseminate financial education messages on a specific issue to the country’s general audience. The chosen subject for this year’s Financial Literacy Week is “Good Financial Behaviour – Your Savior,” which will be observed from February 13 to 17, 2023.
The theme fits with the overarching strategic objectives of the National Strategy for Financial Education: 2020-2025, which aims to improve the financial resilience and well-being of the people while raising awareness. The emphasis will be on raising awareness regarding savings, budgeting, and the responsible use of digital financial services.
International Day of Book Donation
International Book Giving Day, which is also observed on February 14, encourages charity and a passion for reading. It is a day in which individuals and groups can contribute books to children, and many people organise community-wide events to promote the day.
