Ottawa: TikTok was removed from all phones and other devices owned by the Canadian government on Monday, with the explanation being that there were concerns regarding data protection.
In recent months, TikTok has come under increasing examination from Western nations due to fears regarding the level of access Beijing has to user data. The parent business of TikTok, ByteDance, is based in China.
As of this coming Tuesday, “The application for TikTok is going to be deleted from mobile devices that are distributed by the government. In the future, users of these types of devices will also have their ability to download the application restricted “according to a statement issued by the government.
In addition to this, it stated that the Chief Information Officer of Canada had “determined that it provides an unacceptable degree of danger to privacy and security.”
It issued a warning that “TikTok’s data collection techniques provide considerable access to the contents of the phone,” despite the fact that there has been no evidence to suggest that the app was responsible for any violations of government data.
The programme was removed from all European Commission devices one week ago, following in the footsteps of similar actions taken in the United States.

The decision to restrict TikTok in Canada, according to a representative for the business, was described as “curious” because it was made “without stating any particular security concern” or consulting with the company.
Relations between China and Canada have significantly deteriorated in recent years, specifically after Canada’s arrest on a US warrant of a senior executive of Huawei in 2018 and China’s retaliation detention of two Canadian residents in 2018. Both of these events occurred in 2018.
TikTok is being investigated by Canada’s privacy commissioner after concerns were raised about the company’s collection and use of confidential information relating to its customers.
