On Friday, Google joined the ranks of other industry giants by announcing that it will be laying off around 12,000.
CEO Sundar Pichai emailed all of Google’s staff to let them know that the business has already alerted affected employees in the United States.
Pichai added that the process of laying off employees would take longer in other nations due to their own legal systems.
About 6% of Google’s total worldwide workforce is affected by the layoffs.
It is unclear what percentage of the jobs are located in the United States.
Big Tech employees have had a rough January.
On Thursday, Microsoft said that it would be laying off around 5% of its staff, or 10,000 people.
Both Amazon and Salesforce have had layoff announcements made in the past month.
