An HR official at Google was astonished to find that he had been dismissed while on the phone with a potential employee. Dan Lanigan According to Business Insider, Ryan, a recruiter working for Morgan McKinley in Google’s Dublin office, learnt he had been fired after his ongoing conversation with one of his applicants unexpectedly halted.
Ryan attempted to access the company’s internal website during the call but was unable. According to accounts, his teammates faced similar difficulties, but their manager blamed them on technical difficulties. Ryan’s official email and the phone call with his candidate were both later terminated.
Ryan didn’t realise Google had laid off 12,000 employees until he was prevented from using all of his company’s services. According to Ryan, he did not get any official notification of his termination from Google and that all he had gotten were emails from Morgan McKinley advising him that the firm would continue to pay him notice until February 3 and that he should return his office equipment.
Ryan worked under a contract that was extended by Google by one year from its planned expiration date in September 2022. He and a handful of his coworkers were shifted from the hiring of marketing staff to the hiring of Google Cloud personnel, a rapidly growing area. Ryan told the news website that this gave him hope that he was safe.
Google has been chastised by its employees for a lack of support, increased openness, and inadequate communication following the recent announcement of the loss of 12,000 jobs. The need for answers to questions such as the rationale for the firing, what Pichai meant when he wrote in his email that he accepted “full responsibility” for the events that led to the firm’s demise, and other similar inquiries is causing dissatisfaction among employees.
Some Google employees have taken to the company’s question-and-answer website Dory to criticise the company’s leadership and the reasons for the layoffs.
On Tuesday, Ryan disclosed his layoff on LinkedIn.
On Friday, I, like tens of thousands of other Google employees, was let go.
I accepted a dream job at a dream company a little over a year ago. I nearly choked the poor animal when my recruiter called to let me know I’d gotten the position.
Everything came to an abrupt halt 16 months later when I was locked out of the system while on a call. I had not expected this.
My contract was just extended for an additional year, I was transferred to the Cloud Sales recruitment team (an area of significant growth), and there was talk of a compensation increase only a week ago.
I will be eternally grateful for everything I learned and all the lovely people I had the pleasure of working with.
