Gujarat: Stones pelted at Ram Navami procession in Vadodara

Vadodara Bajrang Dal president Ketan Trivedi claimed that the stone-pelting was part of a conspiracy.

Stones pelted at Ram Navami procession: Police reported that stones pelted at a Ram Navami procession in the Fatehpura neighborhood of Gujarat’s Vadodara city on Thursday. Yashpal Jaganiya, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, stated that while a few vehicles were damaged, no one was injured and the procession proceeded along its intended route under police protection. Upon learning about the incident, Jaganiya and other senior police officers raced to the scene.

A local Bajrang Dal leader claimed that, despite knowing that a similar incident had occurred in the past, police were nowhere to be found when the procession, which is held annually along the same route, was attacked. However, DCP Jaganiya asserted that police protection was provided for every procession held in the city on Thursday.

“The situation is contained. The incident occurred when the procession reached the vicinity of a mosque and people began to congregate there. This is not a civil disturbance. The throng was dispersed, and the procession continued along its route. All such marches in the city have already been protected by police, a police official told reporters.

Additional Police Commissioner Manoj Ninama arrived on the scene and ordered the deployment of additional forces to maintain order. “We have deployed armed personnel from the regular police, the crime branch, the Special Operations Group, and the State Reserve Police Force.” There are currently no reports of anyone being injured as a result of the stone throwing.

We have directed an investigation into the incident,” Ninama said. He added that no one had been arrested yet. President of the Vadodara Bajrang Dal Ketan Trivedi alleged that the stone throwing was part of a conspiracy. “This procession is almost annually targeted. Despite this knowledge, there was no police presence in the area. “Stones were thrown as part of a premeditated plot,” he said.
