In the early hours of Tuesday, heavy rain and thunderstorms lashed portions of Delhi-NCR (National Capital Region), which is likely to impede commuters during prime morning hours.
Several areas of Delhi and its surrounding areas, including Ghaziabad, experienced intense rain and thunderstorms early Tuesday morning.
Several areas of Delhi were flooded as a result of the rainfall.
The India Meteorological Department forecasts thunderstorms with mild to moderate rainfall over Delhi and the surrounding area.
“Thunderstorms with light to moderate intensity rain with heavy intensity rain over isolated places will occur over and adjacent areas of entire Delhi and NCR, Gannaur, Meham, Tosham, Rohtak, Bhiwani (Haryana), Baraut, Shikarpur, and Khurja (UP) during the next two hours,” the weather department said in an early Tuesday morning statement.
According to IMD, rain is also predicted in Kithor, Garhmukteshwar, Pilakhua, Hapur, Gulaoti, Siyana, Sikandrabad, Bulandshahar, Jahangirabad, Anupshahar, Bahajoi, Pahasu, Debai, Narora, Gabhana, Sahaswan, Jattari, Atrauli, Khair, Aligarh, Kasganj, Nandgaon, Iglas, Sikandra Rao, Barsana, Raya, Hathras, Mathura (U.P.) Deeg (Rajasthan) during the next 2 hours.
IMD has also recommended that individuals “follow traffic advisories. Stay inside, close windows and doors, and if possible, avoid travel. Take refuge in secure shelters; do not seek refuge under trees, lie down on concrete floors, or lean against concrete walls.”
IMD predicted flooding in low-lying areas as a result of rain, thunderstorms, hail, and lightning over Delhi-NCR and adjoining areas. Rain causes traffic congestion and slick roads. In exposed areas, hail may cause harm to humans and livestock.

Earlier on Thursday, rain and thunderstorms pummeled portions of the nation’s capital. Thursday, the India Meteorological Department predicted, “Scattered to widespread rainfall/thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are likely in Northwest India from March 30 to April 1.”
