The West Indies, who won the 1975 and 1979 World Cups, have experienced a precipitous decline in their cricketing standards in comparison to their former world-beating status. The West Indies are currently positioned at the bottom of the ODI World Cup Qualifiers 2023 standings.
Soon, the Qualifiers will advance to the Super Six stage, making it extremely difficult for the West Indies to qualify for the World Cup by finishing in the top two. Prior to the beginning of the Qualifiers, the West Indies and Sri Lanka were co-favorites to triumph. However, the involved teams are on the verge of elimination due to a fierce competition.
The West Indies, who will enter the Super Six with no points, have an extremely remote possibility of qualifying for the World Cup. Nonetheless, it is important to note that there is still a chance. Mathematically, they still have a chance to qualify for the prestigious tournament, despite the fact that judging by their current form, it would appear that they are unable to do so.
They would have the greatest chance of qualifying if they won their next three matches, but they would still be dependent on the results of the other teams. For the West Indies to qualify, Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe must each lose at least two of their three matches.
In addition, if any of these teams or any of the others conclude with six points and the West Indies win all three of their matches, they will need to maintain a superior net run rate. The West Indies are ahead of the Netherlands and Oman in terms of net run rate, as their loss to the Netherlands in the one-over eliminator had no effect.

There is an alternative method for the West Indies to qualify that does not involve the net run rate. This approach would be appropriate if Zimbabwe were to go on to lose all of their Super Six matches and Sri Lanka were to lose their match against the West Indies but win their remaining two games. Scotland and the Netherlands take one each, while Oman wins two. Sri Lanka will finish with eight points, the West Indies will finish with six points, and the other teams will finish with four points each.
