Recently, elite pacer Navdeep Saini disclosed that he did not anticipate a call-up to the Indian Test squad for the upcoming two-match series against the West Indies. Notably, the 30-year-old signed a four-match contract with County side Worchestershire; however, he will have to terminate his contract after just one game as the pacer will travel to West Indies to join the rest of the squad for India’s first Test series in the current World Test Championship cycle.
On Friday, June 23, the County side announced Saini as one of their new signings, and minutes later, India announced their West Indies series squad. Eventually, Navdeep revealed that he was quite astonished because he expected to be selected as a net bowler for the World Test Championship final, but not for the Caribbean tour.
“I arrived here today to play county cricket, and as soon as I exited the airport, I was informed that I have been selected for the West Indies tour. I honestly did not anticipate this contact. Yes, I trained with the Dukes ball during the IPL because I hoped to be selected as a net bowler or as a reserve for the World Test Championship final, Saini told The Indian Express.
“I am hoping to play one match before departing for the West Indies. It will be beneficial for me to have some overs under my belt,” he continued.

Saini is anticipated to feature against the West Indies.
Saini, speaking about his return to the Test squad, disclosed that he expects to appear against the West Indies. He added that he recognizes the Caribbean country’s surface because it is frequently low and slow by nature.
“This is my second visit to the West Indies. I did not get to play the last time, but ideally I will this time. I am familiar with the conditions. Similar to those at home, the surfaces are low and slow,” Saini concluded.
