Virat Kohli, the star bowler for Team India, tied Sachin Tendulkar, his childhood hero, for the most hundreds in one-day internationals (ODIs) on Sunday when he hit his 49th hundred during a 2023 World Cup match against South Africa. Kohli played a tough innings on a rough surface in Kolkata. It took him 119 balls to hit the famous mark, which helped India beat the second-placed team by 243 runs. India’s win made sure that they would be at the top of the group stage table at the end of it.
Tendulkar went to his official X account to wish Kohli a happy 49th, which was a big deal. Tendulkar wrote in a great tweet that he hopes Kohli breaks his record in the next “few days.” This means that the 35-year-old should make the important 50th century at the World Cup that is still going on.
“That was smart, Virat. This year, it took me 365 days to go from 49 to 50. In the next few days, I hope you get to 50 and beat my record. Thank you very much!” I wrote Tendulkar.
Kohli responded to Tendulkar’s tweet after India’s easy win over the Proteas. He was named the player of the match. While talking to reporters after the game, Kohli claimed that getting praise from Tendulkar was an “honor” and that he could never be as good as his “hero.”
“It means a lot to me.” Right now, it’s all too much to handle. It is a great honor for me to tie my hero’s record in ODIs. People like to compare things, but I’ll never be as good as him. “Everyone looks up to him because he is so good at batting,” Kohli said.
“I’m doing my best to help my country win games.” Never mind what happens; he will always be my hero. This makes me feel a lot of emotions. I remember where I’m from and the days I watched him play on TV. He went on, “So to stand here and get this praise from someone like him means a lot to me.”
