IND vs AUS: India win by an innings and 132-run win in Nagpur

IND vs AUS: Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Shami picked a couple of wickets while Axar Patel also shared the spoils in the second innings.

IND vs AUS:Ravichandran Ashwin took his 31st Test five-wicket haul within 10 overs of his second-innings spell to decimate the Australian batting order as India won the Nagpur Test by an innings and 132 runs.

Ashwin dismissed Australian opener Usman Khawaja in the second over of their batting innings at the start of the third day’s second session.

After lunch, the Pat Cummins-led team was unable to form a partnership as spinners played havoc. In the second innings, Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Shami each took two wickets, while Axar Patel also contributed to the victory.

Steve Smith (25) scored the most runs for the visitors in a disastrous second innings performance.

Earlier on day three, India built to their first innings advantage of 144 runs with three wickets remaining. Ravindra Jadeja (70) was the first batsman to be dismissed in the morning without adding to his overnight score of 66. He misjudged an in-angler from Todd Murphy and allowed it to strike his off-stump in the fifth over of the day.

Axar Patel continued to bat brilliantly and scored 84 runs off of 174 deliveries. He was the last man to fall as he was dismissed by Pat Cummins’s slow off-cutter just before the interval. Prior to that, Mohammed Shami displayed his batting prowess by scoring 37 runs off 47 balls and hitting the spinners with tremendous knocks. Together with Axar Patel, he contributed 52 runs to the ninth wicket total.

Murphy finished with bowling stats of 7/124, which was the third greatest performance from an Australia rookie in Tests behind Bob Massie (8/84) and Jason Krejza (8/215). It was because of his attempt to clear the boundary again that resulted in Murphy bringing up his seventh wicket.
