Indian degrees to be recognised in Australia; PM Anthony Albanese

It is the most comprehensive and ambitious arrangement agreed to by India with any country, Albanese said.

Australia and India have finalised the ‘Australia-India Education Qualification Recognition Mechanism,’ Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced on Wednesday. During his visit to India, Albanese spoke at a programme to announce that Australia’s Deakin University would establish an international branch campus at GIFT City in Gandhinagar, Gujarat.
Significant progress has been made in our bilateral education relations. I am pleased to inform you that the Australia-India Education Qualification Recognition Mechanism has been finalised,” he said.

“Because of this new mechanism, if you are an Indian student studying or have studied in Australia, your degree will be recognised when you return to India. Or, if you are a member of Australia’s very large Indian diaspora — 500,000 and growing — you will be more confident that your Indian credential will be recognised in Australia,” Anthony Albanese said.

Albanese stated that it is the most comprehensive and ambitious agreement India has ever reached with any nation. It enabled Australian education providers to offer innovative and more accessible education to Indian students. And it provides a solid basis for education institutions to consider new ways to partner with each other,” he said.
The visiting prime minister remarked, “It’s a fantastic piece of work that will have very real benefits.” In addition, he announced the creation of a new scholarship for Indian students who wish to study in Australia.

“I am pleased to announce the availability of a new scholarship opportunity — the Maitri scholarships. This is for Indian students to study in Australia for up to four years. The scholarships are a component of the larger Maitri programme, which aims to strengthen cultural, educational, and community ties between Australia and India, Albanese said. The Chief Minister of Gujarat, Bhupendra Patel, and the Governor of Gujarat, Acharya Devvrat, were also present.
