Team India moved one step closer towards securing a place in the final of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) on Saturday after the Rohit Sharma-led side defeated Australia by an innings and 132 runs in the first Test match played at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur. The match was played at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium. India won the match in only three days with to five-wicket hauls from Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin in the first and second innings, respectively. India now has a 1-0 advantage in the four-game series thanks to their victory, which also helped them increase their win % in the WTC points table.
After India’s dominant victory over Australia in Nagpur, the following is how the points table looks for the ICC World Test Championship (WTC):
India is presently in second place in the standings, behind Australia. Going into the first Test, India had a win percentage of 58.93, which put them in second place. India now has a victory percentage of 61.67, while Australia’s win percentage fell from 75.56 percent to 70.83 percent during the course of the WTC tournament. Australia needed a draw to secure their spot in the WTC final.
In order to secure their spot in the next WTC cycle, India, who finished in second place in the previous WTC cycle, must win at least two of the remaining three matches in the Border-Gavaskar series.
There is a remote possibility that Sri Lanka and South Africa, who are now ranked third and fourth, respectively, may make it to the WTC final.
In a two-game Test series against New Zealand, Sri Lanka, which has a win percentage of 53.33, will compete.
