New Delhi: According to reports, the Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian has cancelled his trip to India because of a video that showed Iranian women cutting their hair as part of protests against the government.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran was scheduled to make a trip to India at the beginning of the following month in order to participate in the Raisina Dialogue. This event is being put on by the Observer Research Foundation in partnership with the Ministry of External Affairs.
According to a story in today’s edition of the Indian Express, Iran has informed the event’s organisers that their minister will not be attending the event.
According to The Express, Tehran was perturbed after seeing the promotional film for the Raisina Dialogue, which featured a scene of Iranian ladies cutting their hair beside an image of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi.
A little over a month ago, a video was published online to advertise the Dialogues event that would take place in 2023.
The Observer Research Foundation (ORF) and the foreign ministry were contacted by the Iranian Embassy, according to sources who were quoted in The Indian Express. The Iranian Embassy protested to the photograph of their President standing alongside demonstrators. According to the publication, they allegedly requested that the organisers remove that portion of the film, but the deletion did not take place as requested.
Protests broke out in Iran in September after a young woman named Mahsa Amini was arrested for wearing what the authorities deemed to be “inappropriate dress” and later died while being held in detention. Iran refuted reports that Amini passed away as a result of being assaulted while in detention and instead claimed that her passing was due to illness.

Regarding the demonstrations, India has remained mute. During the month of November, India was one of the countries that did not vote in favour of a resolution that was passed by the United Nations Human Rights Council to establish a fact-finding mission to investigate allegations of abuses of human rights in Iran.
