Following the release of a video depicting a Japanese woman being molested and harassed by a group of men in Delhi during Holi celebrations, the Delhi Police have requested assistance from the Japanese embassy in determining the woman’s identity. The Japanese embassy was contacted and they informed the DCP that they have no information about any such incident.
The woman, according to the police, is a Japanese tourist who was staying in Paharganj, the national capital, but has since departed for Bangladesh.
Police say that three males, including a minor, have been apprehended and the accused has confessed to the crime. Sanjay Kumar Sain, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central), stated that the video is being analysed to determine the specifics.
“The Paharganj police station has not received any complaints or calls regarding any form of misbehaviour involving a foreigner.” “An email has been sent to the Japanese embassy requesting assistance in determining the girl’s identity and other incident-related details,” police said.
The video, which is circulating on social media, depicted a group of men painting a woman, who appeared uneasy in their presence. Also depicted is one of the males breaking an egg over her head.
The youths apprehended face prosecution under the DP Act, according to the police. All three are locals of the neighbourhood of Paharganj. Police stated that any further legal action would be decided based on the merits and in accordance with the girl’s complaint, if any.
