K Viswanath, a renowned film director and recipient of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, passed away around midnight on Thursday at the age of 92. He breathed his last breath in this private hospital. the director had been ill for some time and was suffering from age-related issues.

According to a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao expressed his condolences over K Viswanath’s death. “Viswanath was a rare, distinguished film director who used his extraordinary talent to transform an ordinary story into a classic film on the silver screen.”
Andhra Pradesh’s chief minister, Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, expressed his sorrow over the death of the filmmaker in a tweet.
“Vishwanath is a reflection of Telugu and Indian art. The films he has directed have brought the Telugu film industry unparalleled esteem. As an artist, he will forever remain in the hearts of Telugu people “he said.

Viswanath, also known as “Kalatapasvi,” was born in Andhra Pradesh in February 1930. He became the 48th recipient of the Dadasaheb Phalke award, the highest honour in Indian cinema. He was a prominent figure not only in Telugu cinema but also in Tamil and Hindi films. He was awarded the prize for the year 2016.
Viswanath, who began his career as a sound artist, directed several award-winning films, including “Sankarabharanam,” “Sagara Sangamam,” “Swati Mutyam,” “Saptapadi,” “Kaamchor,” “Sanjog,” and “Jaag Utha Insaan,” over the course of a lengthy career that also included a successful stint in front of the camera.

Other awards include the Padma Shri in 1992, five National Awards, twenty Nandi Awards (given by the government of Andhra Pradesh), ten Filmfare trophies, and a Lifetime Achievement award.
Viswanath, who has produced fifty films since 1965, was a renowned director in the Telugu film industry. He was also active in the Tamil and Hindi film industries.
Aatma Gowravam, which starred Akkineni Nageswara Rao and won the Nandi Award for best feature film, marked his directorial debut.

The director subsequently released “Chelleli Kapuram,” “O Seeta Katha,” “Jeevana Jyoti,” and “Sarada.”
Viswanath also acted in mainstream films such as “Swarabhishekam” (which he also directed), “Pandurangadu”, “Narasimha Naidu”, “Lakshmi Narasimha”, “Seemasimham”, “Kuruthipunal”, “Kakkai Siraginilae”, and “Bagavathi”, among others.
