Every year on July 26, the country comes together to celebrate Kargil Vijay Diwas. This important day celebrates the victory of the Indian military against Pakistan in the Kargil War. It is a moving ode to the valiant warriors who exhibited amazing bravery and made significant sacrifices during the fight in 1999.
Operation Vijay, a military operation that took place during the conflict, is warmly remembered. We are getting ready to observe the 24th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas as this year’s commemoration draws near.
HISTORY: KARGIL VIJAY DIWAS 2023
When Pakistani troops crossed into Indian territory in the Kargil area, the seeds of an armed war between India and Pakistan were planted. From May to July 1999, the Kargil War resulted from this.
The Indian Army initiated “Operation Vijay” in reaction to the first reported incursion by local shepherds on May 3, 1999.
This operation’s main goal was to recapture the Indian land that Pakistani intruders had taken over along the Line of Control (LoC).

As part of “Operation Safed Sagar,” the Indian Air Force carried out an airstrike on May 26 to assist the Indian Army.
Operation Vijay was officially launched by the Indian Army after a series of hard engagements and tactical moves.
2023’s Kargil Vijay Diwas: Importance
An important celebration known as Kargil Vijay Diwas is held to recognise and appreciate the amazing bravery and valour of the Indian military forces.
Numerous ceremonies are painstakingly planned all around the nation to honour the troops who gave their lives in defence of the country.
Nationwide, many rituals, parades, and gatherings are held as tokens of utmost gratitude and respect for the Kargil War warriors.
The Kargil War Memorial, which is located in Drass, Ladakh, serves as the focal point of these remembrances. On July 25 and 26, the Indian Army is hosting a two-day celebration at the memorial.
Rajnath Singh, the defence minister, will attend the ceremony on Wednesday as the distinguished principal guest.
The solemnity of the event is heightened by cultural events, parades, and soul-stirring performances by Army bands at these celebrations.
In addition, the Central government has planned a year-long celebration of the upcoming Kargil Vijay Diwas to ensure that the bravery and sacrifice of those who served will be remembered and celebrated for future generations.
