The boat owner, Nassar, has been taken into detention from Kozhikode in the wake of the tragic boat accident in the Malappuram district of Kerala, which claimed at least 22 lives.
On the evening of May 7, a tourist canoe capsized at Thooval Theeram, Ottumpuram in Malappuram, resulting in the loss of 22 lives. Nonetheless, some reports claim that 21 people have died.
At least 35 people, including families with children, were on board, according to locals and eyewitnesses. According to a report in Manorama, the boat’s capacity has also not yet been determined.
Nassar, the owner of the vessel involved in the disaster in Malappuram, fled the scene. In Kochi, however, the police had arrested his sibling and a neighbor.

Police reportedly confiscated Nassar’s cellphone and vehicle from the detained individuals. Nassar has been accused with culpable homicide, as a case has been opened and he has been identified. Neighbors reported that Nassar’s family had sequestered themselves inside their home.
