Due to a medical emergency, an Indigo flight headed for Delhi lands in Indore, and a passenger dies: Report

After a 60-year-old passenger’s health began to deteriorate mid-flight on Saturday night, an IndiGo flight from Madurai to Delhi was diverted to the Indore airport, a senior official said.

The passenger was transferred to a hospital close to the airport after the plane touched down at the Devi Ahilyabai Holkar international airport, where medical personnel pronounced him dead, he claimed.

Atul Gupta (60), who was travelling on IndiGo Airlines flight 6E-2088, was bleeding from the mouth when the plane took off, and his condition worsened midway during the flight, according to the initial report, airport director in charge Prabodh Chandra Sharma told PTI.

The Madurai-Delhi flight was diverted to Indore due to a medical issue, and it touched down at the nearby airport at around 5:30 pm.

Gupta was taken from the airport to a private hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead, according to Sharma.

Gupta had diabetes, high blood pressure, and a cardiac condition, according to the physician who transported him from the airport to the hospital, Sharma added.

At 6:40 p.m., he claimed, the flight departed for its destination (New Delhi).

The dead Gupta, according to a sub-inspector at the Aerodrome police station, resided in Noida. After a postmortem, his body would be given to his family, he added.
