The ruling Congress in Karnataka and the Opposition, including the BJP and JD(S), engaged in a Twitter spat regarding the deployment of IAS officers to serve opposition leaders who arrived in Bengaluru on Tuesday to attend an Opposition meeting. In the meantime, the BJP asserted that the governing Congress is wasting “taxpayer money” by spending crores of rupees on the Bengaluru “Mahagathbandhan Meeting.”
Kumaraswamy, leader of the JD(S), criticised the Congress for delegating IAS officers to welcome political leaders in Bengaluru. “In its desire to seize power by forming an alliance, the Congress has buried the pride, heritage, and self-respect of Karnataka. It is improper for the Karnataka Congress to assign IAS officers to its alliance leaders. “Is this what they meant by walking the walk?” tweeted Kumaraswamy.
In response to the allegations of the opposition, Karnataka’s chief minister Siddaramaiah tweeted on Monday that the officials were only deployed to greet the politicians in accordance with protocol. “Prime Ministers of various states and former central ministers who arrived in Bangalore today were regarded as state guests.” According to protocol, officials were designated solely to greet these dignitaries, he explained.
“This kind of etiquette was observed by all previous governments,” he added on Twitter.
