NIA raids in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala in connection with Coimbatore car blast case

The NIA raids are being conducted at over 60 locations across three states – Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala.

NIA raids in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala: According to authorities, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) is currently conducting raids at 16 places spread out over the state of Tamil Nadu in connection with the October 2022 vehicle cylinder blast case that occurred in Coimbatore.

The citizens of Kottaimedu in Coimbatore city awoke on October 23, 2022 at dawn to the sound of a car explosion that had taken place in front of Sangameswarar Temple the previous day, which was the day before Deepavali. Jameesha Mubin was determined to be the person who perished in the car explosion that occurred when one of the two LPG cylinders that were stored inside the vehicle went off. This discovery took place by nightfall.

In the initial stages of the investigation, the police detained six individuals from Coimbatore on various charges. These individuals were Muhammad Azharudheen, 23, Afsar Khan, 28, Muhammad Thalha, 25, Muhammad Riyas, 27, Firoz Ismail, 27, and Muhammad Nawaz Ismail, 25, all of whom were from Coimbatore. However, the suspected mastermind Mubin, 29, was killed in the explosion.

The National Investigative Agency (NIA) asserts that the suspects had been plotting the terrorist assault for a considerable amount of time prior to its execution. It was discovered by the investigators that Faaruq was the one who conducted the conspiratorial meetings that took place in February 2022 at the Hasanur and Kadambur sections of the Sathyamangalam forests in Erode. Other participants were Mubin, Azharudheen, Hidayatullah, and Ali.

Shareeq, who allegedly attempted to manufacture a bomb in September as well, was carrying a low-intensity IED when it detonated. A burned pressure cooker with batteries was discovered inside the vehicle.The Karnataka police stated that the explosion was not accidental, but rather a “terrorist attack with the purpose to do severe damage.”

An organisation known as the “Islamic Resistance Council” claimed responsibility for the auto-rickshaw explosion.The letter, which was typed in English and printed with a photograph of Shareeq, stated that he “attempted to attack the Hindutva Temple at Kadri, a stronghold of Saffron terrorists in Mangalore.”
