Hilda Effiong Bassey, also known as Hilda Baci, a culinary sensation from Nigeria, has set her sights on shattering a remarkable Guinness World Record for longest cooking.
The Nigerian chef has surpassed the current record holder, Lata Tondon AKA “Iron Lady” an Indian chef, for the “longest cooking marathon by an individual” through pure determination and unwavering passion.
Baci began this culinary marathon on Thursday at 4:00 p.m., when she turned on her stove, and continued to demonstrate her culinary prowess until Monday. If recognized by the Guinness World Records, she will dethrone Lata, who set the record in 2019 with 87 hours and 45 minutes of continuous cookery.
The captivating Amore Gardens in the vibrant city of Lekki, Lagos State, will serve as the venue for this extraordinary feat.
Despite the inclement weather, Nigerians from all walks of life, including a large number of celebrities, defied the rain to show their support and encourage the visibly exhausted but unwavering chef.
President of Nigeria Muhammadu Buhari lauds Baci on his official Twitter account. “I celebrate with all Nigerians as Hilda Bassey Effiong (Hilda Baci) breaks the world record for the longest culinary marathon. A wonderful day for Nigeria. We are all very appreciative of what she has accomplished personally and for bringing Nigeria into the international spotlight.”
Another notable Nigerian individual expressed his profound affection for his fellow countrymen. “Chef Lata Tondon of India was dubbed the ‘Iron Lady’ in 2019 when she surpassed the previous record by 20 hours by cooking for 87 hours and 45 minutes. When Hilda Baci breaks her record by 9 hours and 55 minutes today, we should dub her ‘Tungsten Lady,’ he stated.
As Monday dawned, Baci attained the remarkable milestone of four days of continuous cooking, a humbling demonstration of her culinary skills and perseverance. This adds to her already impressive list of accomplishments, as she won the inaugural Jollof Face-off Competition in 2021 and received a grand prize of $5,000.

To be officially recognized by Guinness World Record as a Nigerian culinary personality, individuals or groups must provide convincing evidence to a dedicated team and endure rigorous verification. This assures the authenticity and integrity of the listed records, protecting the book’s reputation as a reliable source of extraordinary accomplishments.
