Online Gambling: Madhya Pradesh is soon going to be the first state in the country to enact a law on online gambling. Presenting an answer in the High Court, the state government has told that a committee of senior secretaries is considering to ban online gambling and it will take 3 months to prepare the draft of the new law. Once the draft is ready, the new law will be sent to the assembly for approval. The Single Bench of High Court Justice Vivek Aggarwal has given time taking the reply of the government into record. The next hearing of the case will be on March 13, 2023.
Law going to be made on online gambling
It was said on behalf of the government that the Committee of Secretaries is considering making a law for the purpose of curbing online gambling. Significantly, during the hearing of a petition in the past, the High Court had directed the state government to take necessary steps to stop online gambling. The High Court had said that online gambling is affecting the economic, mental and physical health of the country’s youth on a large scale and a decision should be taken soon on this matter.
The government presented the undertaking in the High Court
Let us tell you that while hearing the bail plea of Sanat Kumar Jaiswal of Singrauli district, the High Court had taken cognizance of the matter. According to Assistant Solicitor General Pushpendra Yadav, Sanat Kumar Jaiswal was accused that he had withdrawn an amount of 8.5 lakh 51 thousand from his maternal grandfather’s account. He wasted this amount by betting on IPL. On behalf of the Central Government, Assistant Solicitor General Pushpendra Yadav told the court that the Gambling Act is a state subject. After that the state government presented the undertaking in the High Court.
