According to a Twitter statement from his family, Musharraf was hospitalised due to problems from amyloidosis, a medical disease he suffers from.

In 2020, the Lahore High Court declared unconstitutional all actions taken by the government of Nawaz Sharif against Musharraf, including the filing of a complaint on a high treason charge and the formation of a special court as well as its proceedings, resulting in the abolition of the death sentence imposed on him by the trial court.
