Passengers traveling in the third AC coach complained to each other about foul smell from the blankets. Passengers searched the coach attendant to take the complaint to the Railways. When he was not found, TTE was informed about this. After this the blankets were changed.

Answer: Each passenger gets a pillow, two sheets, a blanket and a small towel.

Question: If there is a problem in the facilities provided by the Railways, can we complain in the consumer forum also?
Answer: When you buy a ticket, then it is called consideration, that is, you have availed the service of the railway. Railway has taken money from you, it means that it is your service provider. Now it is the responsibility of the Railways to provide all the facilities inside the train properly to the customer i.e. its passenger. In this way, it is the responsibility of the Railways to provide blankets and sheets and to clean them as well. If all this is not clear then a passenger has the right to complain in the consumer forum.
Question: What are the things to be kept in mind while filing a complaint in the Consumer Forum?

- January 9: In the Manduwadih-New Delhi Superfast, Rahul Gupta expressed displeasure over being given a dirty sheet.
- January 9: Arup Agarkar, a passenger traveling in coach B-3 of the Maurya Express, was given a dirty bedsheet.
- January 9: Dirty bedrolls were given to Piyush Mal, a passenger traveling along with his family in coach A-2 of train 12592 Yesvantpur-Gorakhpur Express.
- December 30: Passenger Shailesh Singh, traveling by VIP train AC Express, complained of being given already used bed sheet and pillow.
Question: Are the blankets and sheets present in the bedroll not washed?
Answer: Railway has been promising to provide clean bedroll, but in reality it is not happening till now. Regarding the washing of blankets, the Railways have accepted that the blankets are washed once or twice a month. The contractors take the contract from the Railways by filling quotations at a lower rate. After this, the used sheets and pillow are pressed again without washing and put in the packet.
In 2016, the Railways had said that complaints about dirty blankets are continuously coming, so NIFT students have been asked to make cotton and wool mix washable blankets. It will be used first in premium trains, later in all trains. What happened to this project is not yet known. Similarly, this issue was discussed many times in the Parliament, but the negligence regarding cleanliness did not reduce.
Last year, Navbharat Times Gold revealed why dirty sheets are found in AC coaches. The reporter took up a job as a press worker in Loundreds Company, Sector 83, Noida. In the report, he revealed that dirty and smelly blankets are pressed and packed. All the CCTV cameras installed where the press is done are either closed or defective.

Answer: If luggage is stolen in a moving train, inform the TTE, conductor, coach attendant, guard or GRP escort of the passenger train. They will help you report your stolen or lost items.

- Tell them the whole matter, they will give you the FIR form, which you will have to fill.
