Pathaan by Shah Rukh Khan continues to perform well at the box office more than a month after its January 2023 release. The action-spy thriller directed by Siddharth Anand outperformed films like Kartik Aaryan’s Shehzada and Akshay Kumar’s Selfiee by a wide margin. Pathaan earned over 2 crore on Saturday, bringing its total earnings to 532,08 crore, according to film industry analyst Taran Adarsh.
Pathaan has surpassed the Hindi adaptation of Baahubali: The Conclusion at the domestic box office to become the highest grossing Hindi film in India. According to Box Office Worldwide, the film currently has a worldwide gross of 1033 crore, with 388 crore coming from India alone.
Sunday, Taran tweeted the box office numbers: “#Pathaan continues its HEROIC RUN, showing no signs of slowing down… Weekend 6 is tracking BETTER than Weekend 5 [Fri: 1 cr, Sat: 1.95 cr]… [Week 6] Friday 1.05 credits and Saturday 2.05 credits. Total: ₹ 513.75 cr. #Hindi. #India business.”
Reflecting on Pathaan’s triumph, director Siddharth said in a recent statement, “It’s unbelievable that Pathaan is now the most popular Hindi film in India! Pathaan has received unprecedented acclaim and admiration from moviegoers, and its box office performance reflects this. As a director, I am pleased to have created a film that has entertained audiences worldwide.”
He added, “The Hindi film industry has endured a great deal of criticism in recent years. People were reported to have boycotted us. It was stated that we were unable to create an acclaimed film because we had forgotten how to produce a traditional Hindi film. I’m pleased that Pathaan has become the industry’s response to all the chatter. It demonstrates that if we make a decent film, audiences will come to see it.” Pathaan is supported by Yash Raj Films’ Aditya Chopra.
