PM Advises Precaution as influenza and Covid Cases Rise: Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasised the importance of lab surveillance, genome testing, and testing of all cases of Severe Acute Respiratory Illness (SARI) today,as influenza and covid cases rise. In the last 24 hours, 1,134 new coronavirus cases have been reported, bringing the total number of active cases to 7,026, according to data released this morning by the Ministry of Health of the Union.
Since November, this is the greatest number recorded.At an evening meeting with senior officials to assess the preparedness of the healthcare system, Prime Minister Modi recommended mock drills in hospitals and emphasised the need for vigilance. Additionally, he emphasised the significance of maintaining respiratory hygiene and Covid-appropriate behaviour.
“The Prime Minister issued a directive to increase Whole Genome Sequencing of Positive Samples at the designated INSACOG Genome Sequencing Laboratories. This will facilitate monitoring of newer variants, if any, and prompt response, according to a government statement issued after the meeting.
He has also emphasised the need to maintain concentration on the five-pronged strategy of Test-Track-Treat-Vaccination and Covid Appropriate Behavior. According to him, the authorities should also guarantee the availability of necessary medications and logistics, including beds for influenza and Covid-19 patients in all healthcare facilities.
In the last two weeks, the country has seen a gradual increase in the number of influenza cases caused by H1N1 and H3N2 viruses, as well as Covid cases.The active Covid cases now account for 0.02 percent of all infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate stands at 98.79 percent, according to the health ministry of the Union.
To date, 92.05 billion tests for the detection of Covid have been conducted, with 1,03,831 tests conducted in the last 24 hours alone.The number of fatalities increased to 5,30,813, with five deaths.
