Asia’s largest helicopter factory : During his upcoming visit to Karnataka on February 6, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stones for a variety of development initiatives, as well as dedicate the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) Asia’s largest helicopter factory to the nation. This visit comes ahead of the state’s upcoming elections. The elections for state assembly will most likely take place in April or May in this state. The facility, of which Prime Minister Modi placed the foundation stone in 2016, is a dedicated new greenfield helicopter factory in Tumakuru, and it would boost both the capacity and ecosystem to construct helicopters. In 2016, the foundation stone was set by PM Modi.
This helicopter plant will initially produce Light Utility Helicopters and is the largest helicopter production facility in Asia (LUH). The LUH is an indigenously built and developed multipurpose utility helicopter that is in the 3-tonne class and has a single engine. Its most distinguishing characteristic is its great degree of maneuverability.
In the future, the plant will undergo expansion so that it may produce new types of helicopters, such as the Light Combat Helicopter (LCH) and the Indian Multirole Helicopter (IMRH), in addition to being used for the maintenance and overhaul of LCH, LUH, Civil ALH, and IMRH aircraft. In the future, there is also the possibility that the factory will be able to export the Civil LUHs.

The manufacturing process at the factory will adhere to the requirements of Industry 4.0. More than one thousand helicopters with a payload ranging from three to fifteen tonnes are going to be manufactured at HAL’s Tumakuru facility during the next two decades. This will result in approximately 6,000 individuals in the region gaining employment as a direct consequence. The Greenfield Helicopter Factory, which will cover 615 acres of land, is being designed with the goal of being a one-stop solution for all of the country’s helicopter needs.
