Pradeep Sarkar, who directed films such as Parineeta, Helicopter Eela, and Mardaani, has died. He was 67. Hansal Mehta took to Twitter to inform his followers of the news.

Sarkar was well-known for his contributions to the advertising film industry. In the 1990s and early 2000s, he also directed the now-iconic music videos for songs such as “Dhoom Pichak Dhoom” and “Maaeri” by Euphoria and “Ab Ke Saawan” by Shubha Mudgal, among many others.
He began his film career alongside Rajkumar Hirani and is credited as the co-editor of Munna Bhai MBBS. His first film as a director was Parineeta, which starred Vidya Balan, Saif Ali Khan, and Sanjay Dutt. Sarkar then directed Laaga Chunari Mein Daag starring Rani Mukerji, Konkona Sensharma and Abhishek Bachchan. Additionally, he has directed Lafangey Parindey, Mardaani, and Helicopter Eela. His final film, starring Kajol, was Helicopter Eela. He directed the ZEE5 web series Duranga recently.
