London: Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle have been invited to King Charles III’s historic coronation in May, but they have not yet decided whether to attend, according to reports published on Sunday.
A spokesperson for the couple told Britain’s Sunday Times that they “recently received email correspondence from His Majesty’s office regarding the coronation.”
“An instantaneous determination on whether the Duke and Duchess [of Sussex] will attend will not be made at this time,” their representative said, using their formal titles.
Buckingham Palace has refused to comment.
Harry, 38, is becoming increasingly estranged from his father, sibling Prince William, and the rest of the royal family after exposing the extent of their fractured relationships in a book, Netflix documentary, and numerous interviews.
In his most recent public remarks, the prince reportedly told a trauma expert on Saturday that he has long felt “slightly different” from other British royals, that he came from a “broken household,” and that he was attempting not to pass on “trauma” to his children.
In his explosive autobiography, published in January, he alleged that William assaulted him during a disagreement over Meghan.
Previously, the couple had accused the royal family of bigotry for remarks made about the skin tone of their unborn son.
It was revealed this week that they are being evicted from their property on the Windsor estate, leaving them without a UK base as of later this year.
Since relocating to the United States, the couple has made infrequent trips to the United Kingdom. Following Queen Elizabeth II’s demise in September, they made an uncommon joint appearance in the country.
