After getting into a fight with social media influencer Sapna Gill and her friend Shobit Thakur over the batter’s refusal to take selfies with the influencer, Prithvi Shaw, the opening batter for India, was allegedly manhandled and his car was attacked with a baseball bat outside of a hotel in Mumbai’s Santacruz neighbourhood. The event happened early on Wednesday morning. For allegedly attempting to intimidate the cricketer by destroying his car and threatening to accuse him in a false case, the Oshiwara Police have detained Gill and seven other people.
With over 2 lakh Instagram followers, Gill is a social media influencer. She also maintains a presence on Josh, a video-sharing app, Snapchat, and Youtube.
According to Police officials, the influencer was called to the police station on Thursday for questioning. After initial investigations revealed her alleged involvement in the incident, she was taken into custody.
The influencer, according to Gill’s attorney, was a fan of Shaw and wanted to snap a selfie with him. But, the cricketer misbehaved with her when intoxicated. Additionally, he charged that the hitter had hit Gill with a wooden bat. Also, according to the police, Gill and Thakur were inebriated at the time of the event.
Shaw’s buddy Ashish Yadav, who has lived in his apartment with him for the past three years and owns a cafe, reported the event.
According to the complaint, Gill and Thakur approached the player for a selfie at the hotel, and Prithvi Shaw first agreed to have his picture taken with them. However, when they insisted on taking more pictures with him, Shaw refused their request. As a result, Gill and her friend began acting inappropriately with the cricket while intoxicated. When the hotel manager saw this, he interfered and demanded that Gill and Thakur leave the area.
Shaw and Yadav had dinner at the hotel after this incident. Nevertheless, when they emerged, Thakur was standing there with a baseball bat in his hand. The accused then began to smash the car’s windscreen. Gill mistreated Shaw as well.
One among the people pursuing the car was Thakur, who used a bat to smash the windscreen. Yadav and his pals were harassed by the six people riding motorbikes, along with Gill and Thakur, who were also sitting inside a car. Yadav then drove the vehicle to the Oshiwara police station.
