Puducherry CM announces monthly LPG subsidy of ₹300, allots ₹126 crore for scheme in UT budget

The Puducherry government on Monday announced a ₹300 monthly LPG subsidy for the people of the union territory, earmarking ₹126 crore for the scheme.

Chief Minister N Rangasamy made the announcement in the UT budget for the fiscal year 2023-2024.

Rangasamy, who detailed the accomplishments of various departments, stated that the government had allotted 126 crore for the implementation of the initiative to provide a monthly subsidy of 300 for one cylinder to all families.He presented a tax-free budget of 11,600 billion rupees. The initiative to subsidise LPG would benefit all families with family ration certificates.

The prime minister stated that the government would also host a “World Tamil Conference” with the participation of Tamil academicians from a variety of nations.A national conference would also be held as a highlight of the celebration of Sri Aurobindo’s 150th birthday “to spread his ideas, philosophy, yoga research, and literature.”

In addition, under the new “Chief Minister’s female child protection scheme,” the government will deposit 50,000 in a nationalised bank under a fixed deposit scheme for 18 years.In order to create employment opportunities for young people, he explained, it had been proposed to provide a one percent subsidy to businesses launching new industries with investments exceeding 100 crore. This subsidy would be available on land, machinery, and buildings annually for a period of five years from the date that industries were established.

Puducherry’s budget for the fiscal year 2023-2024 has been set at 11,600 crore, of which 6,154.54 crore will come from the union territory’s own resources, 3,117.77 crore will come from central assistance, including Disaster Relief Funds, and 620 crore will go to centrally sponsored initiatives.He stated that the remaining 1,707,69 crore will be raised through borrowings on the open market and loans from Central financial institutions.

According to Rangasamy, the territorial administration had implemented gender budgeting and youth budgeting in accordance with central directives.”The majority of our financial resources are used to satisfy our obligations, such as salaries, pensions, loan repayment, and interest payments,” he said.

Meanwhile, Lieutenant Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan praised the Chief Minister’s announcements regarding the LPG subsidy and assistance for female children.
