Pulwama widows row: Saturday in Jaipur, a number of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders and party members were detained for agitating against the Congress government in Rajasthan.
Workers and leaders of the BJP demonstrated in response to the outrage of widows of soldiers killed in the 2019 Pulwama terrorist attack.
“Since our leaders and the widows of the Pulwama martyrs were insulted, we are conducting a protest. In the coming days, there will be a ‘Jana Aakrosh’ campaign in Rajasthan where we will emphasise issues such as farmers’ loans and corruption “Satish Poonia, chief of the BJP in Rajasthan, stated.
During the protest, the deputy leader of the opposition in Rajasthan, Rajendra Rathore, was also detained by police.”The government turning its back on widows after making promises, taking four years, mistreating them, and assaulting Kirodi Lal Meena, who was on his way to visit widows, is emblematic of the government’s undemocratic methods…
We will stage a peaceful demonstration “said Rajendra Rathore.”We have initiated and will continue the protest today. The behaviour of the state government is an affront to democracy; we will continue to agitate against the government in every corner of the state “Rathore uttered.
Rathore added, “If this is the government’s reasoning (job appointment should not be given to brother-in-law, children’s rights come first), then why did government ministers go public and proclaim that because children are young, the job appointment will be given to brother-in-law?”
Congress leader and Rajasthan Minister Pratap Singh Khachariyawas said in response to the BJP’s protest, “Dr. Kirodi Lal Meena is a senior leader whom we respect; this is not a BJP versus Congress issue. The administration of Rajasthan stands with the families of martyrs. BJP is attempting to politicise the issue; they may have received instructions from above.”
