Rahul convicted not for abusing individual: The Bharatiya Janata Party launched a new attack against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday, claiming that his animosity for Prime Minister Narendra Modi had become an insult to the nation. This comes amid the political controversy surrounding Gandhi’s disqualification from the Lok Sabha after he was convicted of defamation for his ‘Modi surname’ remark by a Surat court.
“Due to political frustration, Rahul Gandhi’s animosity for Prime Minister Narendra Modi has evolved into an insult to the entire nation. While insulting the Prime Minister, he deemed it prudent to denigrate the entire OBC community, said Union minister Smriti Irani at a press conference.
“He (Rahul Gandhi) insulted and accused PM Modi in Parliament, but was unable to authenticate his own statement with his signature. The court has found Rahul Gandhi guilty of not demeaning an individual, but the OBC community is well-known to every citizen of our country, Irani said.
“This is not the first time Gandhi family has attempted to disparage members of Dalit or inferior communities. Droupadi Murmu was insulted by a Congress member on the instructions of the Gandhi family when a woman from a tribal family became president, the BJP leader added.
“In a magazine interview, Rahul Gandhi stated that he will continue to attack Prime Minister Modi’s image until it is destroyed. The Gandhi family attempted to tarnish the reputation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi when they were in power, but they failed miserably; he could reduce the affection that the common people have for Prime Minister Modi.
The disqualification of Rahul Gandhi has escalated the political conflict between the Centre and the Congress during the turbulent Budget session. The leader of the Congress has vowed to continue asking inquiries and “fighting for the democratic rights of the people.”

“Please comprehend why I was disqualified. I was disqualified because Prime Minister Narendra Modi fears my upcoming speech on Adani. “I saw it in his eyes,” he said at a press conference last Saturday.
