After being found guilty of criminal defamation for his ‘Modi surname’ remark, Rahul Gandhi was disqualified as a member of Parliament.Now, the description of his Twitter account includes both his Indian National Congress membership and his expelled membership in the British Parliament.

Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification as a Lok Sabha representative occurred on Friday, a day after he was convicted and sentenced to two years in prison in a defamation case related to his 2019 Modi surname remark.

BJP MLA Purnesh Modi lodged the complaint against the Congress leader over RaGa’s alleged remark, “Why do all thieves share the surname Modi?”The court of Chief Judicial Magistrate HH Varma, which found Gandhi guilty under sections 499 and 500 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), also granted him bail and suspended his sentence for 30 days to enable him to appeal to a higher court.

CONGRESS HOLDS SANKALP SATYAGRAHA

In the meantime, the Congress launched a day-long “Sankalp Satyagraha” in support of Rahul Gandhi at Delhi’s Rajghat on Sunday, following his disqualification from the Lok Sabha.

Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge, general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and senior leaders KC Venugopal, P Chidambaram, and Salman Khurshid participated in the Rajghat satyagraha.

At the protest site were also Jairam Ramesh, Mukul Wasnik, Pawan Kumar Bansal, Sakinh Gohil, Jothimani, Pratibha Singh, and Manish Chatrath.

Despite the fact that the police refused to grant permission for the satyagraha, a significant number of party members gathered outside the venue.
