Rahul Gandhi sent police notice over his Bharat Jodo account of ‘raped women’

Delhi Police sought more details from Rahul Gandhi about the rape victims that he met during the Bharat Jodo Yatra, as he claimed.

Delhi Police took note of Rahul Gandhi’s claim that he interacted with assaulted women during the Bharat Jodo Yatra and sent him a questionnaire seeking additional information on the matter. The police stated that they were aware of the social media posts made by Rahul Gandhi. On multiple occasions, when recounting his Bharat Jodo Yatra, Rahul Gandhi recounted the numerous stories he witnessed during the journey.

In one account, he claimed to have encountered two women who reported being gangraped. They were reluctant to disclose the incident to the police out of shame, according to Rahul Gandhi. They stated that they would not marry if they went to the police, as stated by Rahul Gandhi. They simply wished to confide in their sibling Rahul Gandhi, but when Rahul Gandhi asked if he could do anything for them, they replied that he was powerless.

According to Rahul Gandhi, women continue to be assaulted in the country, but the media remains silent about it.The notice from the Delhi Police comes at a time when Rahul Gandhi is at the centre of a massive political dispute, with BJP Legislators demanding an apology from him for ‘insulting’ India and Indian democracy abroad. The Congress has repeatedly refuted the allegation and stated that criticising Prime Minister Modi is not an affront to democracy.

Rahul Gandhi stated at a press conference on Thursday that he would like to respond to the allegations made against him in the Lok Sabha, but he may not have the opportunity. Rahul Gandhi stated that he would have been given an opportunity to speak in Parliament if the Indian democracy had been functional.
