The Railways Minister, Ashwini Vaishnaw, reaches at the accident site in Balasore, Odisha, on Saturday to assess the situation and guarantee a comprehensive investigation into the incident. To date, 288 individuals have perished in the accident.
According to the media, Vaishnaw stated, “We will conduct a comprehensive high-level investigation, and the rail safety commissioner will conduct an independent investigation.”
“Our primary concern is rescue and relief operations. “Restoration will commence following district administration approval,” the railway minister was quoted as telling the media.
Saturday, the chief secretary of Odisha, Pradeep Jena, confirmed that the collision between a passenger train and a freight train in Balasore district resulted in at least 233 fatalities and 900 injuries.
Late last night, a significant incident occurred when 10-12 coaches of the Chennai-bound Coromandel Express derailed and collided with an adjacent track, obstructing the path of another train traveling from Yeswanthpur to Howrah near Balasore in Odisha.
He described the accident as tragic and stated, “It’s a major tragic accident. Railway, NDRF, SDRF, and the state government are coordinating the rescue effort. The finest healthcare facilities possible will be provided.”
He added, “Compensation was disclosed on Friday.” In addition, a high-level committee has been formed to investigate it.”
Vaishnaw arrived at the accident site in Balasore in the morning and assessed the situation there, where a search and rescue operation is ongoing.

Friday night, Vaishnaw also ordered a comprehensive investigation into the derailment. In the meantime, the Union Minister of Education and Skill Development, Dharmendra Pradhan, cut short his visit to Kolkata, West Bengal, and departed for Balasore, Odisha, where a passenger train derailed after colliding with a goods carriage and derailing several passenger coaches.
