Overview
The island’s unique vegetation is the most distinctive feature of Andaman. Rubber is one of the most important crops grown on the Andaman Islands, which the locals take great pride in. Those who want to do something different and distinctive on the island can choose to visit a large plantation near Wandoor where the most rubber trees have been planted.The entrance to the plantation provides an unobstructed view of the interiors. Thousands of golden-colored rubber sheets and collecting receptacles affixed to each tree create a mesmerizing view of the vast areas. In total, there are 931 hectares of rubber plantations on the islands.
Highlights: Before generating the final rubber sheet, you will be able to observe the processes of extracting the rubber milk and placing coconut shells on each tree, among other crucial steps. Manglutan is the main rubber producer in the region and is located in close proximity to Port Blair. The plantation was established in 1960 and is now a 60-acre production center for high-quality rubber. Andaman’s most prominent rubber plantation is located in Manglutan village, which also contains a school, hospital, police station, and other important facilities.
Distance from Port Blair: Manglutan Rubber Plantation is located about 21 kms away from Port Blair, the south east part of the island. To reach the village, you can hire a cab or auto or bus from Port Blair.
