Russia has ceased oil supplies to Poland via the Druzhba pipeline, according to the chief executive of Polish refiner PKN Orlen, who added that the company would seek alternative sources to fill the void. (Also see: Three circumstances that could terminate the Russia-Ukraine war)
The pipeline, which has been exempted from EU sanctions imposed on Russia as a result of its full-scale invasion of Ukraine, was shut down a day after Poland delivered its first Leopard tanks to Ukraine.
“Effectively obtaining provisions. Poland has ceased receiving supplies from Russia, for which we are prepared. Only 10% of our crude oil comes from Russia, and we will substitute it with oil from other countries “Daniel Obajtek, the CEO of PKN Orlen, wrote on Twitter.
The company stated that it could fully supply its refineries via sea and that the cessation of pipeline deliveries would not affect petroleum and diesel deliveries to customers.
Orlen began receiving crude oil supplies from Tatneft in February, after a contract with Rosneft expired. Tatneft is a Russian oil and natural gas company.
Tatneft and Transneft, the Russian oil pipeline monopoly, did not respond promptly to a request for comment.
