Gov. Oleksandr Prokudin said that Russian troops attacked the city of Beryslav and destroyed a number of private homes. He said that a woman was killed and that three people, including a police officer, were hurt.
In the town of Lvove, another airstrike killed a 67-year-old man, but Prokudin did not say what kind of weapons were used.
Both communities were hit in the part of Kherson that is held by Ukraine. The Dnieper River, which cuts the province in half, has been a battle line since Russian troops left across it in November 2022, which made the people of the invaded country feel better.
Regrouping on the eastern bank of the river, the Russians regularly shelled cities and towns across the river. This included Kherson, the regional capital that the Ukrainians took back more than 10 months ago after the Russians took it over early in the war.
A Ukrainian drone hit an administrative building in Kursk, Russia, and the roof was “not significantly damaged,” according to Roman Starovoit, governor of the area. He didn’t say if anyone was hurt or what the building was used for.
In both Russia and Ukraine, unconfirmed news reports said it was the offices of the Federal Security Service (FSB), Russia’s main security service.
A lot of killings happen in the part of Russia called Kursk that is next to Ukraine. On Sunday, the drone strike happened while people were celebrating the anniversary of the city’s founding.
The Ukrainian government didn’t say anything right away because they generally don’t take responsibility for attacks on Russian soil.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the president of Ukraine, was on his way home from North America, where he spoke to the U.N. General Assembly and visited Canada for the first time during the war. Zenyuk said on social media on Saturday that he stopped in Poland on his way back to Ukraine to give awards to two Polish volunteers.
It looks like Zelenskyy didn’t meet with any Polish officials, but he thanked Poland for “its invaluable support and unity that helps defend the freedom of our whole Europe” in a post on X, which used to be called Twitter.
Since Russian President Vladimir Putin sent troops into nearby Ukraine on February 24, 2022, Poland has taken in a lot of Ukrainian refugees and been a strong supporter of the country. But recently, a trade dispute put the friendship between Kyiv and Warsaw to the test.
This month, the Ukrainian government complained to the World Trade Organization that Poland, Hungary, and Slovakia were not letting Ukrainian farm goods on their soil, which are important for the country’s badly damaged economy after years of war.

The three countries in the European Union were angry about the move. Mateusz Morawiecki, the prime minister of Poland, replied that his country was “no longer sending any weapons to Ukraine because we are now arming ourselves with the most modern weapons.”
Many people are asking if the West is losing its will to help Ukraine in its war with Russia after hearing what he said.
