Second G20 Tourism Working Group meeting to be held in West Bengal from April 1

The second tourism working group meeting will be held at Siliguri/Darjeeling in West Bengal from April 1 to 3, the Ministry of Tourism said.

Beginning on April 1, the second G20 Tourism Working Group meeting will be conducted in Siliguri, Darjeeling.The first meeting of the Tourism Working Group was held in The Rann of Kutch, Gujarat, from February 7 to 9, 2023.

Singh stated that during the second TWG meeting, all G20 Members, Invitee Countries, and International Organizations will discuss the five Tourism Working Group priorities in greater depth and scope.

“Around sixty international delegates from more than 29 countries will attend the meeting,” he said.
All of the G20 Members, Invitee Countries, and International Organizations endorsed the five priorities (Green Tourism, Digitalization, Skills, Tourism MSMEs, and Destination Management) of the India Tourism Working Group during the working session.

During the 2nd TWG Meeting, a technical excursion to Darjeeling is also scheduled. The monarch of hills, Darjeeling, overlooks the mighty Kanchenjunga.

The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (DHR), also known as the “Toy Train Ride,” will be the primary attraction. The journey will begin at Ghum, the highest railway station in India at 2,258 meters, and end at Batasia Loop. The DHR was named a World Heritage Site by UNESCO on December 5, 1999.

From April 3 to April 5, 2023, an exhibition will be open to the public on Mall Road in Darjeeling to raise awareness of India’s G20 Presidency and promote sustainable practises under Adventure Tourism.The Indian Ministry of Tourism is hosting a Side Event titled “Adventure Tourism as a Means to Achieve Sustainable Development Goals.”

As panelists, we have invited Gabriella Stowell (Vice President) from the Adventure Tour Operators Association (ATTA), G20 Delegates, and Padma Shri Awardee Ajeet Bajaj, President of the Adventure Tour Operators Association of India (ATOAI).
