Recently, Shiv Khera, well-known motivational speaker and best-selling author of books such as “You Can Win” and “Living With Honour,” captivated the audience with his charisma and eloquence at the launch of his newest book, “You Can Achieve More: Live by Design, Not by Default” (Bloomsbury) at the NCUI auditorium in New Delhi. The purpose of his new book, which is the result of “15 years of hard labour,” is to uncover the limitless potential that resides within every person, regardless of intelligence, education, or talent. He provided a summary of the message he wished to convey through his work in an engaging and thought-provoking speech.
As the book’s title implies, he encouraged readers to “live by design and not by default.” Taking responsibility for one’s own circumstances, according to Khera, leads to a life of contentment and well-being. In contrast, a life lived by default is marked by regret, sorrow, and resentment. “A person with a positive attitude cannot be stopped, and a person with a negative attitude cannot be assisted; therefore, to alter reality, we must first alter our mindset.”
Physical, financial, mental, emotional, and spiritual strengths are essential for achieving and maintaining success, as emphasised by the speaker. Khera elaborated on every quality. Initially, he stated that a healthy body is a prerequisite for all of our endeavours in life, so physical fortitude should never be disregarded. Contrary to the commonly held belief that money cannot buy pleasure, financial fortitude refers to wealth and financial security. He claimed that money obtained through honest means did, in fact, bring pleasure. When it comes to emotional resilience, relationships are of the utmost importance. A person who lacks healthy relationships is emotionally barren and cannot be trusted. He concluded by stating that spiritual fortitude provided us with a moral compass and a strong value system that always kept us on course.

Khera elaborated on his thesis by stating that in this rapidly changing world, technology and, more importantly, ideas were becoming obsolete almost daily. This can be viewed as either a dilemma or an opportunity that can be taken advantage of. Even in this age of rapid change, people skills, persuasion skills, and prioritisation skills remain immovable constants, and those who master them are destined for great life achievements.
