Earthquake LIVE: 6.6 magnitude quake in Afghanistan, tremors scare India, Pak Strong tremors felt in north India

Earthquake LIVE: India and Pakistan are alarmed by a magnitude quake in Afghanistan that causes intense aftershocks in northern India.

Strong earthquake tremors were felt in northern India including the Delhi-NCR region.

According to reports, countries including Turkmenistan, India, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, China, Afghanistan, and Kyrgyzstan were affected by the magnitude 6.6 earthquake. The estimated epicentre is 90 kilometres from Kalafgan, Afghanistan.

“As we know, the Indo-Australian and Eurasian plates are colliding, and this emission occurred in that region. The HKH region is extremely seismically active. The depth is the reason why people in northwest India and Delhi felt it for a relatively longer duration. The depth of the fissure exceeds 150 kilometers, so primary waves were first felt, followed by secondary waves. J. L. Gautam, office director and scientist at the National Center for Seismology, stated that aftershocks are probable but cannot be predicted.

In the northern Indian states of Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Punjab, where the earthquake tremors persisted for several seconds, residents rushed from their homes.

ANI reported that the Delhi Fire Services received a complaint about a tilting building in the Shakarpur neighbourhood.

“People ran out of their houses and were reciting the Koran,” an News correspondent in Rawalpindi said, with similar reports coming from the capital Islamabad, Lahore and elsewhere in Pakistan.

According to reports, the earthquake measuring 6.6 on the Richter scale hit countries including Turkmenistan, India, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, China, Afghanistan, and Kyrgyzstan. The epicenter is believed to be 90 km from Kalafgan in Afghanistan.
