Author Sudha Murty, who was honoured with the Padma Bhushan this year, offered some words of wisdom today for her husband, NR Narayana Murthy, founder of Infosys, as well as her daughter, Akshata Murty, and son-in-law, Rishi Sunak, who serves as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. Her advice focused on how to deal with controversies.
“People who are in the limelight, they will always have controversy,” she added, asking them and others to “be morally and ethically right, and work sincerity” “People who are in the limelight, they will always have controversy,” she said. Along with being one of the initial financial sponsors of her husband’s firm (she paid him 10,000 yen when the company was started in 1981), she mentioned having patience as one of the top requirements, as well as the wisdom to realise one’s boundaries.
Sudha Murty stated this to News Channel in an interview just a few days after she was selected to receive India’s third highest civilian honour. “Everyone has a capacity, but also limitations,” she said.
She offered life advise not only for women in general but also specifically for women who had to balance their personal lives with the demands of their careers. “I want to urge every Indian woman that as soon as the little ones arrive, they should make themselves the top priority. You will not be reinstated at the same level if you decide to return to (your profession). However, keep in mind that age is not a barrier. According to Ms. Murty, “your enthusiasm and a strong support system are the two most important factors in reaching the top.”
She used her personal experience to illustrate her point, saying, “When I took a back seat in my job, I never believed this [career in writing] would be possible… It was challenging for me since I was a technocrat and I liked working in a technical organisation. I found myself drawn to that kind of environment. But rather than making excuses, I made a decision to do something else.
She began her career as an engineer and a specialist in computer sciences, and she has since penned over 20 books, some of which have been adapted into television programmes.
“I have always had a passion for writing, and in the past I used to write in the Kannada language… My life took a significant turn for the better when the publication of my first book in English took place. After that, the book could be translated into any one of India’s official languages… “I was able to completely transform myself,” she went on to say.
She spoke about being wealthy, as Infosys is one of the most successful information technology businesses in the world, and she remarked, “Status is all about thinking… In life, having a lot of money is really significant since it enables you to help a lot of other people. [However,] what really is there to brag about when it comes to wealth? There were affluent people in the world before me, and there will be rich people in the world after me.
When asked why she granted her husband a loan of 10,000 yen from her savings when he was trying to launch an information technology company in the late 1970s or early 1980s, she responded, “I gave it to him for his dream.” If it hadn’t worked out, we would have gone back to my house and tried again there. The only things I ever desired were a scooter and a house with two bedrooms.
When Sudha Murty was asked about being “India’s favourite grandmother,” she responded by saying that she had been raised with a great deal of cultural wealth. Due to the fact that grandparents typically do not reside with their grandkids, the chance to pass on this riches to subsequent generations does not exist in today’s society. That is the reason I write. I like to joke that people now refer to me as the “Ajji” of the nation. Children approach me at airports with my book titled “Gopi,” which is about my dog, and they refer to me as “Gopi’s Ajji.”

When asked who the head of the household is, her response was, “Regardless of our positions of power, we are equal.” When it comes to dealing with people, I am in charge. I am known to have a great deal of patience. My husband is the mastermind behind all of our technological endeavours.
When asked who she called after seeing her name on the Padma awards list, she stated that her husband and daughter were the first two people she spoke to.
