Suzuki Sign MOU to launch a Biogas
Suzuki Sign MOU (SUZUKI) and the Indian government agency National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) have signed a memorandum of understanding in New Delhi to launch a Biogas Demonstration Project that will expedite carbon neutrality in India.
Suzuki Sign MOU and NDDB will examine a business model for the future commercialization of biogas and its potential for widespread use in preparation for the formation of a joint venture.
There are several cows in India whose excrement emits methane that has a greenhouse effect 28 times greater than that of carbon dioxide. The initiative will examine reducing methane emissions to the atmosphere and producing gasoline from methane contained in cow manure.

CO2 in the atmosphere is absorbed by pasture through photosynthesis, and the grassland becomes the cows’ food source. Methane contained in cow manure is released into the atmosphere; therefore, by collecting manure and refining fuel for automobiles by artificially producing biogas, methane released into the atmosphere can be reduced. As this fuel is derived from CO2 that has been released into the atmosphere, it is carbon neutral.
The biogas residue can also be used as organic fertiliser, contributing to the Indian government’s organic fertiliser promotion initiative.
By designing and deploying such a business model across India, we believe we can help not just to attaining carbon neutrality, but also to revitalising rural communities, creating new jobs, recycling garbage, enhancing energy self-sufficiency, and establishing a recycling-focused society.
Toshihiro Suzuki, the president of SUZUKI, stated, “While pursuing carbon net zero in India, SUZUKI will also assist to revitalising rural areas and enhancing energy self-efficiency.”
