An Indian Army physician displayed an external fixator designed to treat hand fractures at Aero India 2023 in Bengaluru. The device is currently being deployed in earthquake-ravaged Turkey and Syria as part of Operation Dost emergency relief. Colonel Vijay Pandey was saying that the technology heals patients faster than other fixators.

This external fixator, which weighs approximately 5 g, enables 90% mobility in just one month, compared to six months with other fixators. Designed specifically for the treatment of intercondylar fractures, which are typically caused by a severe blow to the hand or elbow, it costs approximately Rs300. The device is simple for a general surgeon to install.

Col. Pandey stated that at least 100 patients have already been treated with the new fixator.

Monday will mark the beginning of the 14th edition of Aero India, a five-day event. Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Bengaluru on Sunday evening to inaugurate the exhibition of a variety of Made-in-India defence products. At the HAL Airport, Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot and Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai greeted Modi, who arrived on a special Air Force flight.

As a part of Operation Dost, India has dispatched large quantities of humanitarian aid and special rescue teams to Turkey and Syria in the wake of devastating natural disasters. Sunday, the United Nations condemned the failure to deliver desperately needed aid to Syria’s war-torn regions and warned that the death toll of over 34,800 could double.

The seventh Operation Dost flight carrying over 23 tonnes of relief supplies arrived in Syria on Sunday, according to Arindam Bagchi, a spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs. The Indian Air Force C17 carrying relief supplies, medical aid, emergency and critical care medications, medical equipment, and consumables departed from the Hindon Airbase in Ghazia, Uttar Pradesh. The aircraft will unload relief supplies in Syria before flying to Turkey. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar also utilised Twitter to provide updates on the Ghaziabad-bound flight.
