According to an advisory issued by the United States National Hurricane Centre at two o’clock local time, Hilary’s winds were unvarying at 145 miles (233 km) per hour as of that time. Hilary was fueled by warm water. It is anticipated that Hurricane Hilary will make landfall in Mexico during the course of the weekend before bringing heavy rainfall to California and the Southwest of the United States through Monday.

According to the hurricane centre, tropical storm watches have been issued for all of California, beginning at the state’s border with Mexico and extending as far north as Los Angeles and Orange counties. Watches and warnings for hurricanes and tropical storms have also been issued throughout much of the coastline of Mexico’s Baja California state, as well as along parts of Mexico’s mainland shore. From late Friday night through Sunday, there is a good chance that the entire peninsula will be hit with heavy rains that could set off landslides.

According to Adam Douty, a meteorologist with the commercial forecasting company AccuWeather Inc., the storm has the potential to become even more powerful, possibly even reaching the maximum Category 5 strength on the Saffir-Simpson scale, before beginning to weaken as it moves over cooler water. This might happen before the storm begins to ease as it moves over cooler water.

“By the time it approaches land, its intensity should have diminished considerably,” he said.

According to the hurricane centre, by the time Hurricane Hilary makes landfall in Baja California, Mexico, its gusts should have decreased to about 75 mph. As the storm advances into California late Sunday evening, it will likely be a tropical storm, and it will weaken as it moves inland.

Downpours

Nonetheless, Hilary is expected to deliver widespread heavy rainfall to California and the Southwestern United States, increasing the risk of power outages, mudslides, flooding, and disruptions to ground and air travel. The rain could begin in the region as early as Saturday, with the heaviest downpours occurring Sunday night and Monday.

According to Douty, a wide area could receive 2 to 4 inches of precipitation, which would be comparable to the potent winter storms that occasionally cause flooding in California. He stated that desert communities such as Palm Springs and the numerous railway lines that traverse the region and pass through the mountains could also be at risk.

Michael Brennan, the director of the hurricane centre, stated in a video briefing that some areas may receive more precipitation than they normally do in a year. In the past decade, he said, the primary cause of death from tropical systems has been flooding from rains.

The temple is located approximately five miles east of Highway 99, near Gerber Road. According to the sheriff’s office, both victims were hospitalized but are expected to survive. Additionally, one of the victims is likely to be arrested.

A spokesperson for the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, Amar Gandhi, told Fox 40 that the shooting was not a hate crime and described the incident as a shootout between two known individuals.

According to Gandhi, the conflict between the two parties began as a physical altercation but ultimately escalated into a gun battle. One of the individuals involved in the incident is reported to be an Indian male, while the individual suspected of firing the bullets is currently receiving medical treatment in a hospital.

Authorities continue to seek for the second suspect shooter.”During that fight, one suspect shot the friend of the other suspect,” Gandhi stated. “Once the other suspect, who was not shot, regained his composure, he fired at the initial shooter, who then fled,”

When asked if there was an imminent threat to the area, the police officer of Indian descent stated that the situation appeared to be “very contained.””It’s a small blemish on an otherwise peaceful and joyful day,” he said.

The two injured individuals were hospitalized at the Kaiser Permanente hospital in south Sacramento with non-life-threatening injuries. At approximately 3:30 p.m., deputies were seen escorting two men in handcuffs away from the parade; however, it was unclear whether either man was implicated in the incident.

The men were placed in the rear of separate Sheriff’s Office patrol vehicles as a crowd of dozens of people watched in near silence, many holding up cell phones to record the proceedings. Deputies were anticipated to remain at the scene through the evening in order to examine witness statements and mobile phone footage.

Monterey Park, California:

Asian Americans were in shock Tuesday after two mass shootings in California that targeted members of their community killed 18, with the alleged gunmen in both cases being older Asian men.

The killings occurred within 48 hours of each other, so close together that California Governor Gavin Newsom was at a hospital meeting with victims of the first attack when he was pulled away to be briefed on the second.

“It’s always said: only in America,” a visibly irritated Newsom told reporters Tuesday in Half Moon Bay.

“Only in the United States.
Number one in terms of gun ownership.
Number one in terms of gun deaths.
It’s not even difficult “He stated.

“What the hell is wrong with us that we allow these weapons of war and high-capacity clips to be carried on the streets and sidewalks?”

Another shooting occurred overnight in Washington state, when a gunman killed three people at a convenience store in an apparent random act, according to police.

The carnage prompted President Joe Biden to renew calls for Congress to pass an assault weapons ban as soon as possible.
On Monday, a group of senators reintroduced a federal assault weapons ban as well as legislation raising the minimum purchase age for assault weapons to 21.

In the aftermath of the shootings, Biden said he would send Vice President Kamala Harris to California.

“Our hearts go out to the people of California,” he said, describing the massacres as “devastating.”

Investigators were still looking into the motives behind the two incidents, which stood out among the scourge of mass shootings in America because of the community impacted (gun violence is uncommon among Asians and Asian Americans) and the suspects’ ages, 67 and 72.

According to the nonpartisan Violence Project, 79 percent of mass shooters between 1966 and 2020 were under the age of 45.
According to the report, only 6.4 percent of mass shooters at the time were Asian.

The Monday massacre took place on two farms near Half Moon Bay, a rural coastal community south of San Francisco.

San Mateo County Sheriff Christina Corpus announced Tuesday that five men and two women, both Hispanic and Asian, had been killed, and that 67-year-old Half Moon Bay resident Chunli Zhao had been arrested.

A semi-automatic handgun was discovered.

“The only known link between the victims and the suspect is that they may have worked together,” she explained.

“All of the evidence points to this being a case of workplace violence.”

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, a former coworker was granted a restraining order against Zhao due to his violent behaviour.

“Mr. Zhao told me today I’m going to kill you,” Jingjiu Wang wrote in 2013, when the two worked together at a San Jose restaurant.

“He then took a pillow and began to suffocate me by covering my face with it.”

On Tuesday, the small community of Half Moon Bay was still coming to terms with the mass shooting.

As residents gathered to grieve in a local church, a Buddhist monk struck a singing bowl once for each of the seven people killed.

“This is a tragedy, especially on New Year’s Day,” Aily Li, whose family owns the China House restaurant, told AFP.

Sophie Li, who works at Shiki Japanese Cuisine in town, described guns as frightening.

“We just argue without a gun.
But having a gun gives you more power, and something will happen “She stated.

“You’re dealing with people who have guns, and you never know what’s going to happen.
People were shot, correct?”

Vengeful

Meanwhile, in southern California, authorities were trying to piece together what led 72-year-old Huu Can Tran to open fire on a crowd celebrating the Lunar New Year at a suburban dance hall on Saturday night, killing 11.

Sheriff Robert Luna of Los Angeles County reported that 42 shots were fired during the incident in Monterey Park, and that the suspect, Tran, had been arrested for illegal gun possession decades before.

Why would a maniac do something like this?” he asked.

Luna corroborated reports made to police that some of Tran’s victims may have known him.

The whereabouts of Tran were unknown.
The New York Times cited immigration paperwork showing that he was a naturalised US citizen of Vietnamese ancestry, but CNN claimed that his marriage licence indicated that he had immigrated from China.

Tran was once described as a “vengeful loner” by an ex-friend.

“Two words that sum up everything about him: he’s someone to be wary of.
Because of this, he is wary of others around him.
Dislike is the second word.
The acquaintance told the Los Angeles Times that “he hated anybody around him, especially if he thought someone was doing ill on him.”

A man remarked, “I suppose his life was so unhappy and desperate that he chose that day to end his life, and in the meantime, he wanted to get everyone he didn’t like or despised to go with him.

A shooting that took place at a ballroom dance studio in the city of Monterey Park, which is located in California and is close to the city of Los Angeles, resulted in the deaths of ten persons, according to the police.

The offender is still at large, according to the police, and another ten individuals have been hurt.

On Saturday evening at approximately 22:20 local time, the shooting took place (06:20 GMT on Sunday).

Earlier in the day, thousands of people had congregated in the city to celebrate the Lunar New Year at the Monterey Park event.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department has stated that they are searching for a man suspect who ran away from the scene, but they have not provided any other information about him.

According to Captain Andrew Meyer, who is in charge of the incident, when the emergency services came, they discovered customers “pouring out of the site screaming.”

After afterwards, the officers confirmed there had been 10 fatalities.

There have been at least ten more people injured, all of whom are currently being treated at area hospitals; their situations range from stable to critical.

It is one of the worst modern shootings in the history of California. The deadliest shooting in California’s modern history occurred in 1984, when a shooter killed 21 people at a McDonald’s restaurant in San Ysidro, which is located near San Diego.

According to the investigators, there was no obvious motivation, and it was too soon to determine whether or not the act was motivated by bias.

About 60,000 people call Monterey Park, California, home, and it boasts a sizeable population of people of Asian descent.

Videos posted online showed a heavy police presence in the city, which is situated about eight miles (13km) east of Los Angeles.

The Star Ballroom Dance Studio is one of several businesses on the 100 block of West Garvey Avenue, where the shooting took place.

Three people reportedly ran into the witness’s restaurant and warned him to lock the door because a man armed with a machine gun was nearby, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Another incident occurred nearby.

Captain Meyer also stated that police were aware of a second incident in Monterey Park, a suburb north of Monterey Park, but did not elaborate.

“We have investigators on the scene trying to figure out if there’s a link between these two incidents,” he said.

No one was hurt at the second location in Alhambra, but police are still on the scene, according to CBS News.

The annual Lunar New Year festival is a weekend-long event that has previously drawn crowds of over 100,000 visitors.

The Lunar New Year festival events on Sunday have been cancelled due to Saturday’s “tragic incident,” according to a statement from the City of Monterey Park.

It was made clear that the shooting did not take place at the festival.

Saturday night’s festivities were set to end at 21:00 local time (05:00 GMT on Sunday).

Kyle was swept away when his mother’s truck became stuck in the creek. The emergency responders were forced to postpone their efforts because of the low visibility and the raging waters.

On top of already saturated soils, there is a chance that more severe weather will develop throughout the week, bringing with it the possibility of additional flash flooding, rising rivers, and mudslides.
